Brain Rules and the Smartboard Lesson Podcast

I've recently listened to episode 144 of the SMARTboard lesson podcast where Joan and Ben shared the book Brain Rules, by John Medina, and how it translated to the SMARTboard. It was a great podcast, as usual. But the way they talked about the rules and implications for education compelled me to get the book. I downloaded it from audible.com on Saturday and have listened t… Continue

Notebook SE (Student Edition)

A new version of Notebook is coming out, probably in January. A Beta testing period starts in August and goes to December. You can sign up to participate on the Smart website at http://smarttech.com/NotebookSEbeta. Notebook software has traditionally been teacher focused. Now it's moving to a student focus. This shows the iTunes like interface that kids are familiar with. He is also opening multiple files within the same notebook page and it cre… Continue

Revolution Member Bret Rocks the House!

Bret Gensberg did two Smart Board sessions this morning at NECC. I'm sorry to say I missed the first one, but I'm glad I went to the second! He is a phenomenal speaker. He brings passion to his subject, which happened to be the Smart Board. According to him he "Eats, sleeps, and breaths Smart Board" and people give him money to buy more. He is available to come do professional development onsite for you, so if you are looking for a funny, passionate, and practical Smart related PD, contact him.… Continue

Senteo 2.0 is Coming!

And it's free if you already have Senteo response systems! Coming late summer, August probably, is the new Senteo 2.0 software. It's a big improvement. You can still get questions in as easily. The big change is the management side. There will be an integrated gradebook. You can tag students with demographic information to sort data by groups and compare their results to other groups or class average. You can import other grades from other sources (not sure of details on that) into the gradeboo… Continue

shapes matching.notebookSorry, I didn't leave the descriptions for the files...
They are both K-2, possibly 3.

The communities file has a link to the CA state standards in the attachments, as well as which ones are targeted on an introduction page. The lesson is meant as to review the the definition of community, look at different types of communities and compare them, know the basic needs of humans, differentiate needs from wants, the reasons for rules and laws, and the use of direct and indirect democracies to create the rules and laws.

I just added a link for the CA state standards in the math lesson, but don't have them specifically listed in the slides. (I've attached the new version.) This lesson works on matching shapes to their names, on the rules for polygons, and tangram manipulation. It includes links to CA state standards, as well as interactive websites that go with the lessons.

Thanks again!

Matt,

I still don't have the Smart board installed completely. It's been a bit frustrating, but I've been told that by the end of next week it will be ready to go. Our tech. dept. has gotten bogged down trying to get all of the Smart boards installed in the district. As soon as mine is up, believe me the world will know:)

Thanks, Matt--although my classroom time is limited, I want to stay fresh and will contribute whatever I can.

Thanks Matt!
The district I work in is proudly working towards a mounted SMART Board and mounted projector in every instructional classroom. We are close to 80% complete at this point in the school year. We have ~80 Senteo sets across the district as well, with teachers making more and more use of them each day!

Hey Matt--

Thanks, its a redfish that I caught in Florida on recent spring break trip. All my fishing is with a fly rod. I am a licensed fishing outfitter in Montana guiding fly fishermen in the summer for trout on the Missouri River.

Do you fish?

Actually, I have one of the portable ones. It works great, except for the "shadow" problem due to the projector being on a cart. Wish it could be mounted up high, but apparently it cannot. See you Saturday?

Matt,
Thanks! I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions & comments as soon as my Smartboard is up and running.
