SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hi all. I'm an account manager with a regional IT company that supports EDU. I'm not trying to sell anything but would like any input you can offer on your use of SMART boards. I have an area school district that I work with that has purchased Promethean boards in the past and is getting ready to buy many more this year. What I'm reading is that SMART seems to be a the top of the playing field here in the US? I don't sell either but would like to pass along the info to the school district. Maybe I will sell them in future - I love the technology and what you all are doing with it.

Thanks and have a good day.

Lance Johnson.

Can't comment about other boards - but I love my Smartboard. Lesson creation is easy; kids engaged; kids can create easily; unlimited resources already available online; great blogs and wiki's; instructional videos easily found... I could go on and on. I have spoken with others that have worked with other boards and they all wish they had a Smartboard. Hope this was helpful.

I think that Smart has more resources, more support and is also easier to prepare lessons on. I have used others and found that they did not have features like export to pdf and record. I have not used Promethean so can't compare.

Have you seen the new dual-touch SMART Board? Two students, writing and touching one board, simultaneously! http://bit.ly/cVVqNo

SMART Technologies Inc. is the world leader in interactive whiteboards and award-winning products like the SMART Board.

SMART is so much more than just these number one statistics. Professional educators can depend on SMART sellers like SmartEd Services for quality SMART Technology support, professional development, and design and installation services to ensure we are not just adding technology for technology’s sake; but, teaching teachers how to teach with these extraordinary tools without letting them interfere with their lesson plans. The results are amazing. The students are more engaged, collaborate, and best of all, are learning something in their own unique way each and every day.

They also provide free teacher resources to continue these efforts, like these: http://www.facebook.com/SmartEdServices

Plus, a community for educators to share their ideas and explore new techniques: http://www.facebook.com/SmartEdServices

Couldn't tell you anything about the Promethean Board, but I do enjoy my SmartBoard. It is easy to use, has lots of cool "ready-made" items, lessons, and fun things. Check with the people at Illinois Computing Educators (ICE). They might be able to steer you in the right direction.

To be honest, I have only written on a Promethean Board once. Then I was talking to another district's tech person and he said that he had to design math tools for his district. I told him that SMARTboards came with math tools - as many and a various as any math teacher might need. He went a little grey in the face, after I blurted this out - but I was shocked that promethean boards don't have the "gallery" or something like this to support their boards. I'm glad our district bought the SMARTboards!

I don't know anything about Promethian boards but I do know that we use SMART boards in our K- 5 setting and I as the school counselor have updated several of my lessons into smart board technology. Even Kindergarteners can use the smart board and we have them in every classroom now! i'M TOTALLY AMAZED. I originally thought what are kindergarteners going to do with a smart board ?- well the answer is alot! but more improtant to me is that we have the tech support peopel avialable to help us utalizwe the technology effectively. I would not even be in this conversation if it wasn't for the push form our fantastic tech support crew. . . . They go hand in hand.

Learning & Leading needs submissions for the June/July Point/Counterpoint department! They need arguments on both sides of the question “Are whiteboards worth the investment?” See http://exchange-forum.smarttech.com/forums/p/6635/15088.aspx and http://www.iste-community.org/group/landl/forum/topics/are-whiteboa...

Promethean is a far better device. It has more applications, better software, better communication between pen and board. I love the Promethean Planet website. I have used Smart Boards for years until my district purchased the Promethean Active Boards and I am hooked. I love them and everything they can do.
