SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

I could really use some help!  I have the Elmo TT-02s and a new smartboard.  I would like to operate the Elmo through the smartboard and it doesn't work.  I have gone to:

Insert picture from scanner, Elmo Twain DS (VHO),  scan...and the message I get is:

Image Mate or Elmo Twain is already launched.  It won't allow me to go any further.  Can you assist?  I would sure appreciate it!

As for the second mentioned smart board problem; nothing gets rotated, instead, while writing, lines go scrolling off on their own from where any one tries to write. Additionally, any lines written are very wavy, even if the person has a very steady hand. Thanks for any help that you can offer!

***Update*** I tried it with someone who had 10.7 and it DID NOT work.

I have high hopes for the first solution. As I was posting these Friday, I remembered someone in my building who couldn't get images from the Elmo to the board. I tried the first solution on hers today, and it worked. She isn't using 10.7, so that could still be the issue, but I'm pretty confident that it should work.

Lisa, Here's another work around, or maybe even a solution. Try this first:

  1. Press the "camera" mode button on the camera.
  2. Press the "Menu" button and scroll with the arrow keys to "USB Mode".
  3. Use the right arrow to open that menu and scroll to Application and press the "Menu" button again. There should be a black line next to the selection.

Then use the "Menu" button to get back out. This may be why it is not showing up. It's just a guess, but worth a try. I think it may work because when I changed mine to mass storage, it won't work in Notebook anymore. You may have to restart Notebook too. I got an error the first time when Notebook was already running.

If it doesn't, the next set will allow you to capture picture with the camera and insert them in Notebook.

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above again.
  2. Scroll to "Mass Storage". You will have to have a SD memory card inserted into the camera.
  3. Press the "Menu" button again to get back to the camera image. You should hear the Windows "Guh gunk" sound for when a USB device is attached or unattached.
  4. Frame what you want the picture of and press the "Camera" button on the ELMO.
  5. In Notebook, go to the "Insert" menu and select "from file."
  6. Navigate to "My Computer" and there will be an drive with removable media named whatever the SD card is. Find the folder with the pictures and select the one you want.

I would delete these pictures pretty frequently so there aren't a lot to scroll through to find what you are looking for. They will be named like on a digital camera.

Hope this helps. I think I just solved a problem for a few of the teachers in my building too! They couldn't get anything to work in Notebook. I think the top solution may be the answer.

Hi Lisa,

Right now, we're thinking the drivers that got installed are conflicting with each other in that particular version.  We don't actually have the physical camera to actually test with so that makes things a little bit difficult to pinpoint.  We thought about removing the SMART TWAIN drivers as a suggestion, but realized it wouldn't work because the moment Notebook detects the drivers are missing, its going to reinstall them again.

My thought at the moment would be to try utilizing a slightly older version of the Notebook Software/product drivers and see where that leads you.

Notebook Software 10.6 SP1 w/ SMART Product Drivers 10.6 SP2

If you are able to, could you try uninstalling the 10.7 software, and install this particular version above?

As for the other problem you mentioned, do you mean that anything he writes in automatically comes in rotated?  If you could clarify what's going on here, I might be able to provide further answers/suggestions as well.

Lisa,

I sent a message to Randy to see if he can find out anything about this. I'll keep you posted.

Yes, I am using 10.7, and still can't get the Elmo to work.  I did push the PC button and everything as you said.  I still have the problem where it only shows the writing on the laptop, not the smart board.  Any new ideas?

Additionally, I am working with a person who is having a different problem.  When he tries to write on his board, the lines come out turning on their own.  He is an algebra teacher, so this really is a problem for him.  Any ideas?  Thanks so much for trying to help us!

Are you running Notebook 10.7? I recently upgraded to it and now I get the same error message. I haven't used the Elmo with it since upgrading.

All the stuff below is still valid as far as connections and sending video from and to different input/outputs and the USB. But it seems that the new software doesn't recognize something about the old Elmo driver.

Sounds like we need Randy to investigate. Mr. Tran????

Ahhh. You have to push the PC button on the camera to send the video back to the computer. I have a mounted projector. The video signal from the computer goes to the VGA in on the Elmo. Then a splitter box sends the signal back to the monitor and to the wall input for the projector. Boards with an integrated projector have a video splitter from the computer. One sends video to the monitor. The other side sends video to the Elmo VGA in. Then a VGA cable sends the video from the VGA out on the Elmo to the SMART control box video in.

You have a laptop. We don't have that configuration, but it seems that the video is already split using whatever Function+button combo you need to use to send video to the monitor and VGA out to the Elmo. Then, a VGA from the video out on the Elmo to the SMART control box video in. Pushing the PC button on the Elmo will send the laptop video to the Elmo and to the projector. The Elmo acts as a video switch.

And, the Elmo needs to be connected to the laptop with the USB cord too to control the PC.

Hope this makes sense and helps. I kind of covered all the configurations I know of to maybe help someone with one of those configurations too.

Hi Matt!  Thanks for commenting!  Yes, I've loaded the software, and using the source search on the projector, I can view the document under the camera being projected onto the smartboard, but when I write on the smartboard, it doesn't show up.  The marks do show up on the laptop however.  I'd love a solution to this!

Thanks!

Lisa

Have you loaded the Elmo software already? That needs to be loaded first. Let me look more closely at mine and see if I can figure something out further.
