Students create projects using SMART Notebook

Has anyone had students use SMART Notebook to create projects (reports, presentations, etc.)? I'm wondering what sort of projects students can create, especially for a Solar System unit.

There are two main ways to record:
1. SMART Recorder which records sounds and videos
2. Page Recorder in Notebook that only records only what you have on your Notebook page and no sound.

You guys are awesome! Obe, I never thought to use record that way. I always saw it as a voice recorder. Oh my God...the possibilities are endless!

I was thinking less technical than Obe. His is a great solution. Do you understand the steps in the last paragraph of my first response? I know I have a file around somewhere that has this. If I can find it I'll upload it.

Good question Anabel on how to make the planets revolve. This is a Ning to ask questions and learn from one another.
1. Click on one planet
2. Click on the properties 'A' Tab
3. Choose Page Recording
4. Hit record and you will see a red circle signifying you are recording.
5. Drag the planet around the sun.
6. Hit the stop recording button. You just created an animation.
7. Click on the play button and watch it.

Thank you very much for your great ideas! Matt, how can I make the planets revolve? Please excuse my ignorance.

I've had students use Notebook as a presentation tool when researching climates. The students found images, web links, etc. and created a presentation for the class. For the solar system, each student or groups of students could research and create a presentation or interactive activity for the different locations in the solar system.

I have. In the last year or so I have pretty much outlawed PP and gone strictly to Notebook for student presentations. The presentations are even better than before. The kids love to put questions or games from the Lesson Activity Toolkit at the end of their presentations for review. There is more focus on content because there isn't the lure of the fancy transitions and animations on the slides. They use the methods they've seen me use when presenting: erase to reveal, pull tabs, etc.

I'm thinking of what they could do for solar system. They would be able to show the definition of a year by putting the sun in the middle, using the circle tool to make a circle, adding a planet, grouping the planet and circle, and then revolving it around the sun once. They could put two planets in different orbits, group them, and show how the inner planet revolves slower.

Hope this helps.
