A Revolution in Education

Using notebook created documents viewed as a slideshow

I've found many great projects that other teachers have created using notebook ex: family feud, jeopardy, wheel of fortune... However, they do not allow me to use/view as a slideshow and don't run as intended. The projects that I've downloaded that were created using Powerpoint work great. Can I convert the notebook ones?

Hi Laura,

There are 2 ways that you can deal with this issue:

1. You can covert Notebook files to powerpoint. To do this, select "File", then "Export" then "Powerpoint". Please be aware that you will lose the interactivity of the Notebook pages when they are converted.

2. If you wish to emulate a slideshow within SMART Notebook, you can use the timer from the gallery to do this. Search "timer" then drag the blue circular timer from the gallery onto your Notebook page. Click the double arrow on the right hand side of the timer, which lets you customize this object. It is automatically set to "no action" but if you click the drop down arrow beside this phrase, you see some options -- including "next page". If you select this, and change the sound option to "no sound" the page will advance at whatever time you set the timer to.

Confused yet?

It's definitely not as slick as a powerpoint slideshow, but option #2 does allow you to keep the interactivity on each page. To save yourself some time (since you need to insert a timer on EACH Notebook page), I'd recommend adjusting the timer settings on one page, then dragging the timer into your "My Content" folder in the Gallery. The settings will save, allowing you to simply drag and drop the pre-set timer onto each page from your "My Content" folder.

Depending on your project, you can also set up links to other pages in Notebook. I see that you referenced an activity like Jeopardy -- if you want to be able to flip back and forth from a main jeopardy category page and individual questions, it's simply a matter of customizing the links.

That's a whole other explanation :) Please let me know if this would be something that you'd like me to explain.

I hope this info helps!
