SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hi all. I'm an account manager with a regional IT company that supports EDU. I'm not trying to sell anything but would like any input you can offer on your use of SMART boards. I have an area school district that I work with that has purchased Promethean boards in the past and is getting ready to buy many more this year. What I'm reading is that SMART seems to be a the top of the playing field here in the US? I don't sell either but would like to pass along the info to the school district. Maybe I will sell them in future - I love the technology and what you all are doing with it.

Thanks and have a good day.

Lance Johnson.

Not sure about that last comment. We are not experiencing the same thing here. The new software on our Mac SnowLeopard and Leopard systems are working great. It has truly changed the way we teach and there is no going back.

Check out the YouTube and other online tutorials and you can see for yourself.

Our Special Ed rooms were all outfitted with SMART Boards (along with several other classrooms throughout the school). Two specific ways they are being used; a learning support teacher has students use the flashcard templates to review for Social Studies and for Math they pull up the lesson in Notebook and Study Island at the same time. Once the website Study Island is up they layer ink over the website and students can complete the problem directly over the website and have the lesson notes available at the same time. (This is a team taught class with both a reg. math ed teacher and special ed. teacher.)

I have no experience with a Promethean Board, so I can't comment on which one I'd like better, but I do love my SMARTBoard. I love being able to save notes and I use some of the interactive elements, particularly the timer. I love being able to easily pull images into presentations.

I love Smart, but they need to get their software (Notebook) stable and have less updates. The current version has many bugs and is a nightmare for our Tech Department.
