I've recently listened to episode 144 of the SMARTboard lesson podcast where Joan and Ben shared the book Brain Rules, by John Medina, and how it translated to the SMARTboard. It was a great podcast, as usual. But the way they talked about the rules and implications for education compelled me to get the book. I downloaded it from audible.com on Saturday and have listened… Continue

SMARTBoards and Pop My Balloon Please

I provide a lot of support for teachers using the new version of SMART Notebook and I'm often asked to explain how to use the wonderful tools found in the Lesson Activity Toolkit.

One of the newest tools is the Balloon Pop tool. The Balloon Pop tool is a flash object that looks like a balloon and makes a popping noise and disappears when it's touched. This is useful for displaying information hidden behind the Balloon Pop object. You can use it to reveal positive and negative… Continue

ePonderings part 1

Today I sit at my computer attempting to write my first blog. My main goal is to improve my writing and share thoughts about teaching and learning.

This year I have read an amazing amount of opinions, views and ideas as I have ventured into social networking. Most I have agreed with and some I do not. But as a result of all my exploration on the web I have deduced that I can waste a lot of time looking and playing and not actually doing anything productive.

I have made use… Continue

Senteo 2.0 is Coming!

And it's free if you already have Senteo response systems! Coming late summer, August probably, is the new Senteo 2.0 software. It's a big improvement.

You can still get questions in as easily. The big change is the management side. There will be an integrated gradebook. You can tag students with demographic information to sort data by groups and compare their results to other groups or class average. You can import other grades from other sources (not sure of details on that) into… Continue
