NB files not opening

We have several NB files that were created using NB 10 (for Mac and PC) that are no opening. The error message says that it was made with a newer version of NB...but the PC we are opening them on is completely up to date. The only thing these files have in common is that they are all math files...potentially made using the features in mathtools (beta) and this computer does not have mathtools installed. Any one else having insight into what is happening I would be greatly appreciative if you… Continue

While traipsing through my multiples LISTservs, feeds, etc. I fell upon a really cool social networking website. Not sure that it has a lot of usefulness for SMART, BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT it is really cool and could not resist sharing with you guys! It allows you to build an online magazine that others can purchase. Check it out! http://magcloud.com/about

August 18th Presentation in Virginia

I'm very excited! I just learned that my proposal to speak at a SMART Users Conference in August was accepted! I'll be talking about the use of SMART technology and software in higher education. I'll use one of my existing presentations (but doctor it up a bit, of course) that I use to discuss why our own faculty should integrate SMART in the classroom. However, I'll probably include some of the CSK 032 Basic Math files that I create between now and then (per my earlier post).

Last week Smart Board user conference questions

During a SMART Board user conference last week I was asked if it was possible to:

  • Keep a pen from the pen tray and hold it in your hand,
  • Use your finger as the selector tool,
  • Use the heel of your hand as an eraser… and do all of these at the same time!

Well, the answer is yes! To do this you need to change the settings on your SMART Board to do so. Simply go into your SMART Board Tools > Control Panel > SMART Hardware Settings. From the…

Have You Seen This One? Tip #1 from the SMART Notebook Gallery

Teachers live very busy lives, and as such, we tend to explore a new product only to the point of it being useful to us, instead of taking extra time to look in-depth at it's capabilities. I, myself was guilty of this with SMART Notebook when I was teaching -- I laugh now that despite being a very proficient user of my SMART Board in my classroom, I had never seen the screen shade tool until I got into this Education Consultant role! But the reality is that I had never gone looking for it… Continue

SMART Response VE -- The Wait is Almost Over!!

Awhile back I wrote a blog post on the announcement of the new SMART Response VE. I'm really excited about this new product, as it will enable students to take SMART Response assessments with any of their own internet-enabled devices. I can't wait to see if this is the push we need to start talking about a more open cellphone/iPod environment in schools.

Developmental Education: Basics of Math in Higher Education

I've been chartered with creating lessons for a CSK 032 course which is Basic Math for our Developmental Education students. I'm finding this challenging as there is not a lot of resources out there for higher education. Yet, the content of the course seems so basic that I'm considering adapting Grade 12 material that I found online.

I'm hopeful that this will work for our students. We are having a student engagement issue and I know that the integration of technology such as Smart… Continue
