Jim Hollis and Harvey Almarode bring you a scary episode of Get SMART with SMART Boards. This week Jim and Harvey share some Halloween resources for teachers to use with their SMART Board. Harvey begins by sharing is thoughts on the Living Sasquatch website. This website allows you to incorporate your webcam to bring a living Sasquatch onto your SMART Board. Jim's website recommendation is Oswego City School's interactive games which include some great Halloween themed Math games. Jim and Harvey also share some creepy Halloween Notebook files including Jim's Halloween Safety House. The podcast concludes with a challenge from Harvey to create a 3D hole in a 3D rectangle using the tools in the Notebook toolbar. If teachers use the SMARTBoards just to project on and don't learn how to develop interactive learning lessons on Notebook or PowerPoint, or don't use interactive websites, then it isn't worth the money. However, I have heard from several teachers that their reading and math scores went up after the teacher began using a SMARTBoard as an interactive learning tool. Seeing teachers use the SMARTBoard to instruct with as well as use the SMARTBoard as a learning center is an incredible sight to see.

I think you will find a large number of people that share your sentiment about the Marzano keynote. My school has 13 smartboards collecting dust right now. Before any school/district makes that type of purchase it is always prudent to assess the needs vs. wants of the teachers and how they would use it if provided.
