SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Anyone else notice that 11 loads much slower than 10 did? Maybe it's just our computers, but it is significant.

No, it's not your computers, NB 11 does load much slower than NB 10.  SMART is well aware of the issue.

Any update on this. It takes a full minute to load on my new laptop. 1 minute in front of a class is a long time!!!

'Tis not just your computers--it's a known problem. It takes a very long time to open NB11. :(

At a SMART Training in Chicago this summer we were told that clicking on the title screen that appears (and stays on for a LONG time) could speed up the process. Not sure if it really speeds up the loading or if it just feels better when I am actively doing something.

I cannot see how that would work, if anything it would slow it down. I find this incredibly infuriating and I would seriously be inclined to revert to version 10 if it isn't resolved soon.

We are experiencing the same issue. It is painfully slow. Our teachers are becoming very frustrated.

I've just had word from Smart! Bored to say that it should be fixed this fall/autumn in service pack one.

Any word on a release date for this yet?

We're heading towards winter here in the UK and still no update. The good news is that all of my pupils can count up to 58 in French and do so regularly as this is the time it takes to load.

Thanks for the good news, Andrew!  I figured that would be the way it would happen.  They'll tweak things. I also wonder about the FULL PAGE view issue--it annoys me no end to have to scroll down in Full Page view (i.e. that is not my idea of full page...) Has anyone heard about a fix for that?

One way in the meantime to deal with the slow loading would be to open your NB files in advance (if you can do that) and just minimize them.  Then just maximize the file you need from the bottom of the screen.  Regarding the FULL Page view issue, I am not sure exactly what you mean by that.  Do you mean the full page view which you can see a blue line at the bottom?  If so, when you create your file, just keep in mind that anything you place below the blue line will not be seen in your classroom on the actual SMART Board.  So either you need to place everything above the blue line, keeping less objects on your page, or you will need to zoom out and make the page smaller.  I hope this helps.

Thanks Rebecca, I actually have a dual problem in that I teach in different rooms. This means taking my laptop with me. Problems with docking and undocking mean that I end up have to reboot the laptop at the start of the lesson and then wait for Notebook to start. This does not look very professional especially in front of teenagers. I really like using the smartboard and it is an integral part of my lessons - it certainly helps to engage the pupils. I also agree with Cathy, all those notebooks I have previously made I had to scroll down, however I think also that there is a solution using the view drop down menu. I'll check that out when I get back to school.

Have a pleasant weekend
