Comment by Jennifer Harper on February 21, 2013 at 8:21am Call tech support. Amongst all of the other issues I was having, I also had the two Smart Tools opening, too. I can't remember the fix, but they were able to resolve it.
I have deleted the SMART ink from the login items, but it continues to appear when I restart. Is there another way to turn that "feature" off?
Comment by Obe Hostetter on February 21, 2013 at 7:13am Yes, it is possible to downgrade to Notebook 10.8. I have had to downgrade several teachers since the Notebook 11 won't open up some Notebook files, the software asks to be reinstalled once a month or the software is too slow. Everything will transfer to Notebook 10 except for the new tools like Activity Builder, Internet Browser etc.
1. Uninstall all SMART Software under Applications
2. Download Notebook 10.8 from http://www.smarttech.com/Support/Browse+Support/Download+Software/S...
3. Install Patches from
http://www.smarttech.com/us/Support/Browse+Support/Download+Softwar...
4. Restart and activate using Product key.
Comment by Allison Friedman on February 21, 2013 at 7:08am I am having the same issue as some others with the new software upgrade -- it thinks the pen is both writing and a cursor. I tried Jennifer's fix and it only worked temporarily. I am also having an issue with Board tools opening up 2x in my dock. Anyone have a better fix? Is it possible to downgrade to an older version. I have had sooo many issues with version 11.
Before this issue (which was brought on by the latest update/patch) my version of Notebook would give me an error every few weeks requiring me to re-install. Now this! It is ridiculous! What does SMARTTECH have against Macs?
Comment by Jennifer Harper on February 16, 2013 at 10:13am Yeah!!!! Glad it worked.
Jennifer your fix worked perfectly... thanks!
Comment by Jennifer Harper on February 11, 2013 at 9:12am You can also find the hidden"Library" by holding the option key down when you click "go" from your desktop menu.
One issue for anyone trying to find the Library folder is that by default in Lion and Mountain Lion it is hidden. You can unhide it by typing
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
into the Terminal app and hitting return.
Comment by Jennifer Harper on February 11, 2013 at 8:22am Thanks so so so much Jennifer - I will do that now and have another try in the morning... Did you have any issues with the board recognising your finger before it is even on the board?
