The Smart Board works fine with my Excel 2004 program until I try to create a graph. As soon as I go to the graph wizard, I get the beach ball of death and need to force quit the program.  I have determined that there is a problem between the Excel program and the Smart Board tools that is causing this to happen.  If the quit the Smart Board tools the graphing function works fine.  I am using an Intel iMac with 10.6.5 and the newest version of Smart Board software.  Have others had this problem and does anyone have a solution other than to quit Smart Board tools each time I want to create a graph?

You may want to look at permissions of the file. Make sure you have read/write access to the file. It also doesn't hurt to run Disk Utility and repair permissions.

Are you logging in as the same user on multiple computers? If so, this has caused issues for us with Notebook when a users logs on to two or more computers with the same server-based account (networked home directory). Our fix is that teachers need to restart computers or only log into one computer at a time if they are using Notebook.

Hi folks! I'm still working on getting a roving teacher's SMART response files to work. We are using OS 10.4.11.
I installed the .teacher file on HD>users>shared folder on 6 machines as Obe suggested. It works on 1 of them, but not on the other 5. When I try to open the .teacher file I get "TeacherTools is unable to open this SMART teacher file. Please try opening one of the backup files located in…" But there are no backup files.
You can open TeacherTools, but not any existing file. You can't start an assessment because there is no open class file.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks Obe! I'm going to work on these solutions. I'll let you know how I do.

Anne,

If you are on 10.4, there is no fix for Flash 10.1 and Notebook/SMART Response. The only fix is to upgrade the computer to MAC 10.5 or downgrade your flash to 10.0 so your flash will work on 10.4. Downgrading to Flash 10.0 will make Notebook/SMART Response work but then Flash websites may not work and you will be using a Flash version that has security issue problems. It is up to you on whether to have the current flash or to have Notebook/SMART Response working with all the flash components.

Can you provide more details? Can you open Teacher Tools? Can you start a Notebook assessment? When do you get the message in use? Networked home directories that schools use can cause issues. On our Macs, the one place you can save to the local hard drive is the Macintosh HD-users-shared folder. I would try saving your Notebook file and Teacher Tools file to the shared folder or anywhere you can save on the local hard drive and see if that helps.

Our Spanish teacher travels from classroom to classroom. She would love to use Smart Response but gets a message "In use" and it won't let her open her files. All of these files work fine on her "home" machine. Suggestions? Thanks gang! We're using Mac OS 10.4.11.

Glad to see some discussion about Flash, because my flash stuff won't work on my machine. I'm using OS 10.4.11 on an eMac with 1.25 G processor and 1 G memory. I have checked for updates and it says I'm updated. Is Notebook 10.0.346.2 the most updated I can get for my equipment? Thanks!

The latest Flash 10.1 breaks Notebook. The fix is to update to the latest Notebook or downgrade to Flash 10.0. It is best to upgrade your Notebook since Flash 10.0 has security problems.

Hi Shannon,

I ran into this with a group the other day. I believe the issue was that there was a version of Notebook for Mac that was released in Jan (and only available for a few days) that interfered with Flash activities. The fix was to re-install either a new version of Notebook or to roll it back one version...if you need help doing this, let me know!

Flash in SMART Notebook has suddenly stopped working on our Macbooks! Students were previously able to open flash activities from the LAT, and now none of the templates will open. We get an error message saying that Flash needs to be installed, but it already is! We tried reinstalling just to be sure, but it still will not work. Any suggestions?!
