SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

I just visited the Snow Leopard Compatibility wiki and the entry for Smart Notebook on there is as follows.

SMART Notebook 10.0.346.2 http://smarttech.com/ WARNING.png Crashes every 10 minutes

Does anybody have any experience with Snow Leopard and your Smart Board Software?

PS the site mentioned is

I have not had a problem with Snow Leopard on my particular machine. However one item to note is that SMART Response is not SNOW Leopard compliant. We are hoping to have compliance in the upcoming 3.5 release due out around the end of next week.

Please take my advice. Here are the issues. When I write the letters connect on their own, I am not able to type on a Notebook page, and the Floating tools won't load on their own. Notebook crashes if any flash is used or if you transfer a notebook slide form one file to another. Wait to update. Yes, I have called tech support. Right now there is a fix for the letters connecting, but the flash problem has yet to be solved.

The flash problem will be fixed in the upcoming service pack.

Yesssssss! I love using Notebook and if the flash problem gets resolved, I will be one happy camper.

See Christopher Klein's sensitivity tip that might help at http://smartboardrevolution.ning.com/group/smartmacusers/forum/topi...

What is the solution to letters connecting? I've been looking and haven't found it...

(I've a math teacher whose +s are continually changing into 4s, and whose =s don't work -- she's having a tough time!)

I just spoke with a Smart tech rep today who was able to resolve this issue for me (after much head-scratching). Open Smart Board Tools control panel, select Smart Hardware Settings, go to Mouse and Gesture settings, and decrease the sensitivity of the double-click to the minimum value. This resolved the issue, and so many of our teachers were so frustrated because their writing was illegible.

That is good to hear. I had no problem with Notebook, but my smart responder software said no receiver was attached. I am upset that any software developer did not have upgrades available right away for the Snow Leopard update. Snow Leopard was announced two years ago to developers. They should have been making the adjustments two years ago.

While this is true Jim, the announcement and when files are completed and available to developers are totally different things. Apple and others have a tendency to not finalize their package until shortly (weeks) before it is available. As such, many companies (SMART included) have found that changing their software to match a pre-release version of an OS comes at a difficult price. For example, solving Flash issues was a much higher priority than working with an early pre-release of Snow Leopard as it would impact more users immediately than putting development time into something that has changed 3 or 4 times since the announcement.
As such, we are looking to have Notebook compatible very soon (possibly within the week) and we are in development for our Response system to be available in the very near future. When I get an expected timeline I will pass that information along.

Is there a good way to subscribe to these updates so that I know as soon as new software is available? RSS works too, if available. Thanks!

Any news on this update?

I have not had any significant problems; however, it has not been without some annoyances. While Notebook has never been a "bug-free" app, it does seem a little "flightier" than usual - more crashes than in 10.5. But, as I said above, I would not say it is significant. It certainly hasn't kept me from taking advantage of Snow Leopard or Notebook - and I have yet to lose any data. So, it is annoying, but definitely not a deal breaker.
