Have you seen the Google Earth Lit. Trips? It is a great feature of Google Earth. It takes the setting of different stories and then makes the story "come to life"! Check it out and let me know what you think!

I love Lit Trips! We have started creating our own based on non-fiction Holocaust books. The kids are so engaged!

That is a great idea. Are they difficult to create with your students? What is the biggest challenge?

To add a push pin with information takes a few minutes to learn. To add a photo or embed a link requires a small amount of html. Well worth the effort!

What age group did you do this with?

I did this with fifth and sixth grade students. As they read the book, they found locations that were relevant to the story that we could research for the lit trip. Then each group worked to write up their locations. The kids were very engaged and it greatly expanded their understanding of the literature.

Episode 6

Jim Hollis and Harvey Almarode bring you a scary episode of Get SMART with SMART Boards. This week Jim and Harvey share some Halloween resources for teachers to use with their SMART Board. Harvey begins by sharing is thoughts on the Living Sasquatch website. This website allows you to incorporate your webcam to bring a living Sasquatch onto your SMART Board. Jim's website recommendation is Oswego City School's interactive games which include some great Halloween themed Math games. Jim and Harvey also share some creepy Halloween Notebook files including Jim's Halloween Safety House. The podcast concludes with a challenge from Harvey to create a 3D hole in a 3D rectangle using the tools in the Notebook toolbar. Jim also shares a tip on how to incorporate sound into your Notebook files.
