I have found that on my Mac (OS 10.5.8) with the newest release of Notebook/Drivers/Smart Response, you absolutely have to start the pieces and parts to the Smart Response in a specific order or they do not function.

1) Open Teacher Tools
2) Plug in the Receiver
3) Stop the "Anonymous Class" because on my it always starts on its own.
4) Start the "Class"
5) Wait until the system tells you that it is ok to start the clickers.
6) Sign in at least one student
7) Open the Assessment file
8) Start the Assessment

If I follow this procedure, I have no issues.

I'm a MAC user and had to convert from Senteo to Smart Response. I did the full unistall of the Senteo and then I went to my "Library", "Preferences" and deleted the Senteo ".plist" file. That seemed to fix all of my issues once I did my reinstall.

Why does SMART ask for a license for SMART Response even though I've registered it for the building in the past? Where do I find the license code? I've got the receiver connected to the laptop. (Just updated to SB 10.6 and downloaded new SR software also).
Now it's not asking for the license but it was a few minutes ago...maybe I'm running on the 30-day trial...how do i find out?

I run on Mac, but I found that I had not totally uninstalled the senteo software so my smart response software and senteo were not compatible. I had to totally uninstall all my smartboard software and reinstall the new. Works much better now. This was a difficult issue to uncover. I was attending a free-tech Smart Tech workshop and the tech people from the company uncovered this. My district Tech people didn't catch it. Good Luck!!

Anne, I was just going to suggest to make sure you have the class lists saved as a .csv file (from Excel) then deleting them out of the Teacher Tools so that you could start over again and import from the .csv file. Sounds like you may have already done that.
I have no idea why the names wouldn't change as long as you stop the first class and then went to start another one. I hope someone else has an answer for you. I guess I've never encountered that exact problem.

I could really use some help! I used to use the clickers all of the time when they were Senteo, but since the second release of Senteo and now Smart Response, my class lists will not load correctly. If I try to switch from one class to another (different students), the names stay the same as the first class. It is very frustrating. I've installed and uninstalled. I've deleted lists and reentered. Any ideas?

FYI, I'm on a PC running Windows XP.

Thanks...that was going to be my next step. The teacher's desk and computer is right next to the electricity and Internet pole (dumb setup, I know) but it was like that the first time she used them and didn't interfere. I appreciate the suggestions!
She's so excited to use the clickers I want them to work! :-)

One idea to see if it is the computer or something in the room causing interferences is to borrow a computer from another room that you know works and see if the SMART Response works fine. If the problem lies with the computer, maybe SMART Response needs unisntalled and reinstalled or the computer needs reimaged.

Another idea is to see if there is any wireless router, another SMART Response being used nearby or electrical devices (Fuse box) in the room that might be causing interference.

The same teacher that kept getting the LOG IN messages tried using the same set of Clickers and receiver this week. The kids got logged in ok this time, but now the answers took forever to register in SMART Response (list of who is finished/who isn't). The exact same set of Clickers and receiver work great in my room on an iMac with 10.5 and another teacher's room using an eMac and 10.4.11. This teacher has a sound amplification system in her room for a child with a hearing aid. Any chance that could be interfering with the receiver?
In the meantime, SMART tech support told me to make sure it is a 2.0 usb port that the receiver is plugged into (it is an iMac with 10.4.11), and I tried a different usb port but no luck. I'm going to try using the Clickers Friday logged in as admin and see if that works.

I've had the same problem, and so has the teacher next door to me. One fix that has worked, we have traded receivers. We unplugged and then changed receivers. I don't know what that does, but it does work sometimes. Not every time, but 95% of the time. The other one, is like what has already been mentioned, wait one day and try again. But that doesn't always work when you really, really, really need it.
