SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Has anyone been successful using Study Island with the SMART Response PE Clickers?  The Study Island website says it is supposed to work.  I followed their instructions posted online.  I also ran updates so that I'm running SMART Response 2010 (3.0.188.0)  and SMART Notebook 10.6.238.3.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I tried it this summer with SMART Response (SENTEO) and the student directed part didn't work. i contacted Study Island and they said that everything needed to be teacher directed. I haven't taken it to the point with a class because I am not a classroom teacher and we haven't had anyone on staff try it yet either. That was as far as I got with it.

Smart Response and Study Island

response to Vickie from quite a while back:

I see that you wrote this a while back, but I am just now getting interested (and finding time) to get the two to work together, so I was wondering if you had any success in getting them to work with Study Island?

went to school this morning and actually did get the Smart Response clickers working with Study Island.  thanks

Do you have PCs or Macs? We use Macs and Study Island says the Clickers won't work on them with SI just yet. But someone else told me they did.
But I haven't been successful yet.

I have a PC, so I guess that is why it worked.  Sorry.  Hopefully they will get it up and running soon for the Macs.

I have a Mac and have been unsuccessful getting my clickers to work with Study

Island too. Looks like a great resource. Hope SMART does whatever it takes to include Mac users soon.
I like using the clickers with StudyIsland, but I find one step to be really annoying. Is there a way to assign the clicker "codes" to the students without having to go through and individually assign each clicker to a student? I guess what I'm asking is, "Is there a way to get the unique clicker 'serial number' from the clicker without goeing throught the StudyIsland set up process?" I'd like to be able to set up my students on my own time, rather than using instructional time to assign each individual clicker. I hope this makes sense to someone. Thanks.

I will try to remember the steps I took, but without it in front of me...

have clickers hooked up and ready to go first

select topic you want to use, class

select classroom response system

when you get to the page that has the pad number, I left it blank and hit next.  Since the responders were already on, it "found them and assigned numbers to them."  I then had to drag the numbers into the box on the right.  The students MUST use the same responder assigned to them in order for it to track grades.

If this does not work, let me know and I will do it again at school when I have the responders in front of me so I can see the screen.  Hard to remember each step from my poor tired memory...

Thanks.  That's how I did it before.  It just seems to be a slow way to assign the codes during instructional time (that is already so short).  I was hoping there was a way that I could get the codes from the clickers themselves, and then enter them through the StudyIsland interface during my prep periods, without wasting instructional time.  Since I posted my question, I did a bit of searching online.  I think I may have found a way to do what I want to be able to do.  Of course, I have to wait until I get back to school to try it out.  If it works, I'll post the steps.  Thanks for your input.
yes, I would be interested in those steps.  I have only used it so far with a very small group, but want to eventually use it with more students.  You only have to put them in once, but it is time consuming.  thanks

Attached are the instructions for making permanent clicker assignments to students in Study Island. Please contact me at pcoker@ware.k12.ga.us if you have questions or problems.

This is JUST what I wanted.  Thank-you!  I had done some further investigating, and figured out how to get the serial numbers off of the clickers, and was getting ready to start working on entering them.  You save me lots of "investigation" time.
