@John> When you use the attachment tab to attach files, you're actually inserting a copy of the file into the Notebook file.  Because of this, if you share your Notebook file, you share everything you've attached tot he file as well.

Can you explain how items put into the attachment can be shared with others. I thought that tab was profile specific.

Thanks Obe for letting me know how you use the attachment tab.  Like Tim I have just been linking the files from my computer to the notebook pages.  I guess I can see putting them in the attachment tab if I wanted to share with another teacher.

Isn't it easier to just create a link to the file or site directly into a notebook page? I have never seen the point of the attachments tab

I use the attachment tab sort of like a filing cabinet.  You can store all your files for a topic there so it is easy to find and load them.  For instance, if I am doing a lesson on butterfly life cycles, I would put my Word worksheet, Discovery Education/United Streaming movie clip, Kidspiration file all in the attachment tab.  Then I can make a shortcut to those files by dragging to the Notebook page.  When I want those files to come up, I just tap or click on my shortcut link.

Can someone tell me a good use for the attachment tab? 

How should it be used in putting a Smart lesson together? 

I have been using my SmartBoard for two years now and I have never used the attachment tab.  Am I missing out on using an important tool?
