SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

I recently completed training to be a certified Smartboard trainer (I am not fully finished with the process yet) and I am going to need an alternative access method to train others on using the Board due to difficulty with standing for any length of time. My trainer suggested using the Smart Airslate, and whereas I would love to do this, cost is a factor. My district currently owns and uses Dukane slates, and it is likely I will need to use one of those (if it is available). Does anyone know if they would work with a Smartboard or with Notebook Software (Windows version 10)? I will not have access to a board again or a slate to try myself before school starts and I want some options. Thank you.

Did you get SMART's warning e-mail about using their software with other hardware?
I assume this means that, in all likelihood, it will work. I don't use a SMART document camera. This means I cannot use the Notebook icon to start it.
I'll bet it will work!!!
Cheryl, if you haven't read the licensing letter from SMART, you'll certainly want to do so. I'm going to upload it here for you.

The end of the letter does state: If you have any questions regarding the SMART Notebook license or wish to inquire about the use of SMART Notebook software with Restricted Products, please contact SMART at 1.866.518.6791 and, following the voice prompt, press 7 for SMART Notebook license. You can also send us an e-mail at info@smarttech.com with “SMART Notebook license” in the subject line.

They would be able to specifically address your situation.

On a functional level, you can still use that slate with the Notebook Software, but you'll have to do it as if the slate were a mouse. Whereas any of our slates will be recognized as a SMART Product and will add extra integration features (like the icon strips, and on-the-fly tool switching), no third party products will be able to do this because they are unable to utilize the drivers we supply (which are for SMART Products to begin with).

On an intellectual/legal level, you would need to purchase a Competitive Notebook Software license from your nearest reseller before using the third party slates with our software.

As for the non-SMART Doc Cameras, you can still use it with Notebook, but they will not have all the functionality that using a SMART Document Camera would have brought to the table. (You can use it to scan or take an immediate picture from the camera, but you won't be able to use it like web cam, or as others have mentioned, interface with Notebook Software directly.

Hope that clears things up a bit for you.

We own a license for me to use the software. I would only be using the slate when I have a board available to use it with :-). Thanks.
