SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Here is a Word document or a Notebook file with directions on how to use an ELMO with the SB. It is a companion for the video on the same topic.

Thanks Matt- you're the BEST!!
Hi Matt- I trust all is well with you? Writing for 2 reasons- 1st want to share a quick story. I was at a Dept. of Ed meeting today when the SMARTBoard Revolution became the topic as folks were discussing relevant online resources and support for teachers. Naturally I couldn't resist sharing my story of how I met both you and Obe this summer--- which impressed the crowd!!! :)
I also have to thank you for this Elmo how to-- it came in handy last week as we had to connect our first Elmo in the district. Your directions were very helpful to the tech folks who were at first a bit puzzled. So thanks again! I just have one other question- is there a way to activate the Elmo using the DocuCam icon in the Notebook toolbar?
Thanks for everything!
anne marie
No. I asked SMART people about it. Even though it is the same camera, the SMART Document Camera has upgraded firmware that tells the software that is is a SMART "made" camera and to work with the icon. This is the best alternative workaround. It's possible to capture images with the software, ImageMate, that came with the Elmo, but this puts the image right into Notebook.

This also reminds me that I should make a direction sheet for the actual physical connections. That's a bit of a mystery where everything gets connected too.

Take care.
Thanks! Have a great 3 day weekend!
Your videos are great!! I am still struggling with the connections. I have not been able to find the direction sheet on here for the physical connections. Thanks a bunch!
It's harder to make directions for physical connections because computers and video cards are different. In general, you have the video coming out of the computer going in to the document camera. Then video out of the camera to the projector. The camera acts as a video switch, letting you select the camera or computer as the video source. There may be a splitter somewhere in this configuration to also get video to the computer monitor.

Did you look at the link below about the document camera experts and their videos? They have all kinds of document cameras and setting them up.
Paul Weatherhead, a member, shared these links for document camera resources. There are several videos of how to connect different models and brands.

There is a demo room full of videos:

Thanks for these! Often when working with teachers they are using different document cameras so this will be a nice resource.
hey MATT, do you have any for the SMART elmo? thanks!
No. The hookup will be the same. It should just work beyond that. The hookup is the tricky part because there are so many different computer configurations.
thanks!
I am receiving a Smart Board soon. I am also going to a meeting to become skilled at how to use it. Does anyone have any enjoyable ideas to use this board with nursery school?
