This two day conference, organised by Dave Blemmings, is being held at Senator Gershaw School, Bow Island, Alberta. There will be featured speakers from Illinois, Georgia, Maine, Australia and Scotland with an additional 30 classroom teachers from Alberta, showcasing how they use SMART technology in their classrooms. The conference was great, I didn't get to see any presentations as I presented 8 sessions over 2 days, but I managed to take time out to take a bite from the worlds' largest pinto bean, located in Bow Island, Alberta.

However, I met and spent time with some fantastic teachers/presenters. Many of whom  you may be familiar with. For example,  Al Wolmer who recently presented on the SMART board Revolution Webinar. Al is great value (Australian lingo) and provided me with a link to an article that he wrote on the use of SMART Notebook software and teaching calculus. Jen Deyenberg presented numerous sessions. Of particular interest was her session on Geocaches. If you don't know what that means, here is a link to one of her video tutorials.

Richard Byrne, well, he was the highlight of the conference and rightly so. A wealth of knowledge in terms of the integration of ICT and education. He uploads free teacher resources on a daily blog at Free Technologies for Teachers.

 

There were many more presenters who shared their knowledge and expertise. This is just a snap shot (Australian lingo again). Speaking about Australian lingo, I learnt not to use the term 'rubber' when referring to the SMART board, instead you should use 'eraser ' (awkward situation). Furthermore, the teachers in Canada hadn't heard of fairy bread. Have you? There were other terms which were misunderstood or not heard of (ie notes in music had different names). Regardless of this, it was great fun and I think Canadian teachers appreciated a different perspective on SMART Notebook applications and functionality.

We are looking forward to attending again this year!  (2013) Have the dates been set? Also I would like to see if there is any interest in smartboard activities and/or ideas for the Librarians.  My Librarian would love to come and join us this year.
