SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hello. My neighbor across the hall is having an interesting SMART Board problem. When she picks up a pen, or eraser, it seems to lag behind. So much so you cannot ever write out a word. It seems as if the computer only sees the beginning and end, but not the middle of the letter.

It seems to me that the CPU seems bogged down, and it isn't a board issue.

Any thoughts?

If it is a Windows computer, it could be several things. First, restart the computer. Second, hold a SMARTBoard pen on the blue reset button on the bottom right side for 10 seconds. Reinstalling Notebook sometimes helps.

Adding RAM memory would definitely help. A good place to buy cheap good memory is from http://www.crucial.com

The computer might also have a virus, spyware or malware slowing it down. Here are some suggestions for speeding up any Windows computer.

1. Restart the computer

2. Download the free Malware Bytes Install and run a full system scan.

3. Check the Antivirus is current and run a full system scan.

4. Run Disk Defragment under Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools.

I had this issue also. If following Obe's advice doesn't work, look to see if you are using too many of the flash games/activities. I didn't have enough RAM to support the flash. I finally got more RAM and my computer is not bogged down as much. Although Notebook 10 and our attendance program don't like each other. I don't know why but if I leave them both open, my SmartBoard lags.

If your SMART Board is connected using a USB port, make sure it's connected to a high-speed USB. The SMART Board should be plugged into one of the USB ports in the back on the computer.

All good suggestions and I've seen all three of these cause the issue.

Multiple Flash objects on earlier releases of SMART Notebook + Mac can cause latency issues that will replicate the problem.

Lower end specifications can result in delays especially if multiple programs are open and running. This is because of how Windows and Macintosh use time-sharing of applications. Lag can occur there.

And James is right - older USB ports can have an impact. Older USB ports [1.0 ports] use a much slower communication speed to and from the SMART Board. Most Mac's and PC's these days come with higher quality ports anyways. But you want to make sure everything is 1.1 compliant. For example, if you have a box you run the PC to and that box goes to the board - try skipping past it. It might be a USB 1.0 box.

Thank you all very much. I never thought of the USB 1.0 vs. 2.0 issue.
