A Revolution in Education
Hi there,
We have a number of SmartBoard 500 Series boards around our school, some have the original SMART USB-Serial cable (USB-001-00) and these work fine with the latest SmartBoard Tools v11 on Mountain Lion.
However, some of our screens use the later replacement cable (USB-FRU) and these do not work with Mountain Lion (although if we swap to the USB-001-00 cable they work fine).
On Mac OS 10.7 Lion, we could work around this by booting the Macs in to 32bit Kernel mode using systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386 or by holding down '3' and '2' at startup. Unfortunately, Mountain Lion removes support for 32bit kernel mode completely so this approach no longer works.
As SMARTTech no longer produce the original USB-001-00 cable, is there a x64 driver in the works for the USB-FRU cable?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I was having the same issue with 10.7 so I contacted Smart and they do have a 64 bit patch for that cable. It worked for me on 10.7 so I don't see why it wouldn't work with 10.8. Here it is. Good luck.
