SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

I have a staff member in my district who is able to open SMART Notebook files, but when se saves she gets this error:

"File Save Failed. Save it in new location. Collect log."

I don't know what the error means and I would love to fix it. She is running a Windows XP machine with SMART Notebook 10.7 because the operating system won't let me upgrade to 10.8. Any suggestions you might have on how to solve the problem would be appreciated.

Try saving the Notebook file to a different location.  Maybe the user doesn't have rights to save in the default location?

The user should have rights to save in that location because she is saving to her network folder. A few weeks back our fileserver crashed and when it was restored, that is when she started having problems. I think she's tried to save as but the same error keeps occurring. The file may just be corrupt in general.

Hi all,

This problem is actually a known issue within the Notebook Software 10.7.  Despite getting that error, the Notebook files are still being saved.  (You can test this by opening a file, move an object slightly, save it, and reopen the file, the changes should still be saved.)

The only way around this nuisance of a problem is to upgrade the software.  As for not being able to upgrade to 10.8, sounds like there is a permissions issue as there are no actual restrictions OS-wise that could prevent you from installing the newest versions of the Notebook software. I think the account in question may not have the rights to install/upgrade software on the computer.  My suggestion would be to have a (domain) admin execute the install for that computer.

What I've found out about permissions are that the Windows XP machines need to have service pack 3 on them to run the update, but the SP3 doesn't work with another program on the computer. So either SMART Notebook works correctly or this other program does, and right now it's more important the other program does. We are upgrading the computers to Windows 7 this summer. Thanks for your advice.

We are seeing the same problem here. The user in question has 10.8 installed with Service Pack 3. The file is *not* actually being saved. Please advise if you discover a solution. Thanks!

This same issue started happening in our school. Our only solution was to save the file to the C: drive and then move that file to our Network drive. It is an extra step but at least we knew the file was saved.

I am having the same problem. I recently got a new computer with Windows 7. The files are not saving. Any advice?

It seems like the file saves but she is still getting the error. At this point we are just going to leave it alone because the teacher is getting a new computer this summer.
