SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Notebook 10.8 is available for download. From my understanding, it was released in order to fix a few bugs associated with the dual touch SB800 series. Does anyone know if it has any benefits for SMART users of SB660 or older boards?

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the info. I would've tested the issue on a blank Notebook file, because we are aware of some issues related to "scanned" files and writing on them in Notebook. So that's definitely something we can look into.

Do you by any chance have that file that you tested this on with the scanned document? if you could upload it for me so I can take a look at it and test it out just to confirm.

In regards to the orientation issue, try the steps indicated below:

1) Go Start > Run and type regedit

2) Press OK

3) In the registry Editor, right-click on My Computer at the very top of the tree and select Export and save the file as Backup to the desktop

4) Now go to the following location in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies\SMART Board Drivers

5) Under SMART Board Drivers there should be a list of keys called Board1, Board2, Board3, etc. Delete all of them (make sure to only delete the keys that have the word Board and a number after)

6) On your controller, click on the reset button and hold for 5 seconds

7) Once done, go ahead and orient the board in 9 points then in 12 points

This usually helps with most orientation issues.

I'll get a copy of the file and get it to you.  As far as the registry edit, there are two SMART Technologies entries under the Software key, SMART Technologies and SMART Technologies Inc..  SMART Technologies has a Board1 under SMART Board Drivers, SMART Technologies Inc. has a Board1 under a SMART Board Software key, no drivers key.

Yes you're right there are two.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies Inc.\SMART Board Software

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies\SMART Board Drivers

You can delete both Board1 keys and continue the steps above.

Here's one of the files we're having the issue with, thanks.

Thanks Scott,

I don't seem to have a problem with it all. What kind of boards do you have and are you using Windows 7 or Windows XP?

HS

We have SB680's with XP SP3.  I found out that one of the teachers having a problem is working in a 17MB file of a math text book, could that be the problem?  I showed her how to break out each unit in to its own Notebook file to cut down on file size, she's going to use one tomorrow and let me know if it helps.  A different teacher having an orientation problem said it was horrible today, when she'd write towards the top of the screen the text would angle up towards the edge.  She also showed me how she was trying to write on a document running in Word 2010 and the text wouldn't appear where she was righting, it was about two inches low.  This was only a two page document.

In regards to the 17MB Notebook file, i would definitely try and lower that size down. Are these mainly imported images of the book? if so make sure you use the File > Export Optimized File so that it shrinks down the size of all the images within Notebook and converts it to a much smaller and workable file size. (the export optimized file is a new 10.8 feature)

In regards to the teacher using Word, is this an issue only when she writes in word? or does it also happen on her desktop with Ink Layer and in Notebook?

HS

The 17MB file is a PDF of a math text book, we'll try the export option.

As far as the Word issue, it doesn't always happen in Word.  She brought up a blank Notebook file and started writing towards the top of page and the text angled up a little, she said what I was seeing wasn't near as bad as it had been earlier in the day, she's going to call me when it's happening so I can see it.

Ok for the orientation issue, did the registry steps above not work?
Unfortunately the registry steps didn't resolve this issue.
I tried the Export Optimized File but the option is greyed out, any ideas why?
