PLEASE HELP !!!! New MacBook and Smartboard Lessons

I have been reading some of the discussions and it seems that others are also having trouble with Lion OS and smart board software.   I just purchased my Macbook about 2 weeks ago and could NOT understand why every time I started a lesson it would "crash" and then it seemed the more it "crashed" the more frequent it happened.  I asked the IT guy at my school ( who had me install and reinstall different versions of the software 4 times) until I finally contacted smart board myself to find out that it is NOT compatible ?  I NEED some sort of help here -I have spent HOURS and HOURS putting together my lessons, following a curriculum that seems to be constantly interrupted because I can not keep the program open long enough for the students to stay focused.  Teaching middle school is difficult enough without the computer constantly "crashing".  I do not have a chalkboard (as it is covered by my smart board), there are no laptops to loan from my school AND I can not deal with this DAILY occurrence.  IS there any setting that I can change to help run the program more smoothly ?  Is it possible I can install an old version of a mac OS till there is a solution for Lion?  Any help would greatly be appreciated !!  Thanks - one very frustrated Math teacher

I would try Notebook 10.6 or 10.7 for now. Those seem to work better. Follow the directions to turn off the auto resume in Lion.

I'm glad you asked this question. I've been holding out on updating my 3 year old  MacBook to Lion because of SmartBoard Notebook. I create lessons at home on it. It's not hooked up to a Smartboard. At school we have Windows and there has not been any problems since I haven't upgraded the OS or the SB software. I'm still running Notebook 10.7.

 

Recently I got an iPhone 4s and can't take advantage of all the iCloud integration unless I upgrade to Lion. I've checked the SmartTech website and can't find if SB Notebook 10.7 is compatible with Lion. I know Notebook 10.8 is not.  

 

I was wondering if I could partition my hard drive and have it run Snow Leopard with Notebook 10.7 in one partition and then run Lion in the other. Or should I just stick with what I have and hope that a 10.8 Lion compatible upgrade or patch will be available soon?

Better yet, install Parallels Desktop and Windows. I have XP since I've had it for a while, but Vista works too. Then you can run Notebook 10.8 in windows. Plus then you have the advantage of being able to run Windows apps if you need to. I need it at school where we have a windows network.

You have to change your OS to the version before Lion, and yes you can do that.  Your IT person should be able to help you do that pretty easily.

The camera feature of Notebook doesn't seem to work on Lion no matter what version of Notebook is installed. However, Notebook should work in Lion if you install Notebook 10.7.  I have some teachers using it with a few issues.

 

1. Run the SMART uninstaller.  

2. I would turn off the auto resume in Lion by:

Go to System Preferences
Select General
Uncheck the box labelled "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".

3. Install Notebook 10.7 on Lion.

I've got the same problems and am not using Lion but am using Snow Leopard. So it's not a MAC OSX problem, but a problem between the compatibility between Notebook (either version) and Mac OSX (either version). I Installed previous versions of Notebook and that wasn't helping either. I guess that the lessons containing flash and/or some Lesson Activity Toolkit activities will crash and others won't.

I installed Bootcamp and am running a Windows-partition on my Mac now (I don't like it, but this way I am able to continue creating and giving lessons). Also the Notebook 10.8 works with Mixed Reality and Math Tools and those two plug-ins don't work on Mac OSX either, which is very sad).

I'd say: try Bootcamp and run a good and full version (incl. Mixed Reality and Math Tools) of Notebook 10.8 on your Windows partition, until 'they' have a proper solution for this problem.
