SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hello everyone from a fellow teacher from Greece. I am having an issue with the Notebook 10.8 software.

I have installed the program on my laptop (HP Touchsmart tm2 with rotating touchscreen) in order to use it both at school and at home. The program operates excellent when I connect the laptop to the SmartBoard at school, but whenever I use it with my touchscreen the pen writing lags significantly, the result of which is the distortion of quotation marks, punctuation marks etc.

I have tried connecting an external wacom tablet and the problem still persists. Whenever I use it at school with the SmartBoard, the pen icon doesn't appear while writing, but whenever i write on the screen of my laptop (or with the wacom tablet) there is a pen icon. I think it has something to do with the recognition of the language but I'm not an experienced Notebook user to be sure.

The specs of the laptop are:

- Intel Core2 Duo Processor at 1.2GHz

- 8GB DDR3 RAM

- 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD5450

- 7200RPM 250GB HDD

I have read similar issues on the forum but nothing concerning the standalone use of the Notebook application.

Hmm...

Your specifications look good enough to me.  I haven't worked with that particular touchscreen, but I have used other mini's before.

My only thought is that possibly it is having an interference of some type?  I can try and make some suggestions, but they will be a bit general just because I'm not sure of the root cause here.

You might wa to try:

- Disabling Tablet PC temporarily

Press Start > type in: Services.msc > Double click on it to Launch

Find Tablet PC in the list of services, right click and press Stop

Note:  You need to have SMART Notebook 10.8 for this to work on a SMART Board when this happens

Now you should be in tablet-PC (free) mode.  Your pens might work as expected now.  If it doesnt, try:

- Closing the SMART Tools

- Press and hold Control+Shift+Escape

- Look for SMARTBoardService.exe in the list

- Right click on it and press End Process

Now you should be in SMART software free mode.  Your HP Touchsmart should be operating in mouse only mode.  Give it a try now and see how it operates.

If you use those two methods to stop the services, everything should be back to the way it was originally.  But this should at least help isolate some possibilities.  But this would be a tougher one to fix.

Thank you for your answer Lloyd. Unfortunately either way the problem persists. I have also noticed that the same problem appears with Smart Boards whenever I use the marker buttons on the top strip of the Smart Notebook (e.g. whenever I take the red marker from the board and press the green marker on the strip to write green). I think that it has something to do with the program and how it uses input devices.

Thanks anyway... I hope you can get another idea.
