I am in need of a little help with a question that has been presented to me when I do a presentation on Smart Board Integration in the Primary Classroom.
Here is the email from a colleague:
my board is frequently grossly out of orientation and re-orienting the board does not solve the issue. i have attempted resetting the screen resolution - sometimes this helps, but we're still far enough off that we cannot use the more sophisticated sites or applications because we can't manipulate the images on the board with enough accuracy.
I am trying to research this myself, but thought someone here might be able to give a new view on a solution maybe.
Orientation can be improved by:
1. Do everything you can to make sure your projector doesn't get moved. If it is on a table, try to prevent people from bumping the projector. If the projector is mounted, we still have some of our mounted projectors get off alignment due to the heat or air-conditioning blowing air on the projector. Also check the bolts on the projector to make sure it is tight and doesn't move any direction.
2. Typically most projectors like the resolutions 1024 by 768 or 800 by 600 so set your computer's resolution to one of these settings. Set the focus and leave it. Focusing a projector can change the alignment enough to need to orient again.
3. Go into the SMART control panel and change the orientation points to 12 or 20. More points can help with accuracy especially in math class.
4. I tell teachers to orient every morning even if they have a mounted projector because this seems to help eliminate alignment problems. Some teachers even orient every period. If needed, orientation only takes around 30 seconds or less and won't mess up your lesson. Just hold down the 2 buttons on the front of your SMARTBoard pen tray for a few seconds.

Hi Bill,
What we have found is that if Orientation is a constent issue, the board is most likely was mounted in front of something metal check behind your board and see what is behind it...
Obe's comments are right on target. If those corrections don't work, I recommend that you reach out to your reseller that you bought the product from, and have them stop out. If they are a quality reseller, they would do this with no issues. Where is this board located? Country? State etc..
