A Revolution in Education

Greetings, all:

My name is R.J. and I am a Technology Coordinator for a school out in Chicago, IL. I am creating some imaging computers to use in our transition to a managed client environment this January.

One problem I encounter when creating the eMac image is a continual crashing problem with Smart Notebook 10. The Notebook software opens, and then maxes out CPU usage at 100%. Eventually, the program force quits.

Any ideas?

(eMac image is running 1.25ghz, 1 GB ram, 10.5.9. Smart Notebook software is running the most current version) Could it be that there is no Smart board attached? Is the software searching for a device?

Different Notebook 10 versions work better on different computers. I encourage you to contact Smarttech. They have excellent support. Contact them at 1.888.42.SMART.

Senteo 2's Notebook is working for us on 10.5 I would delete the several com.smarttech preferences found in Macintosh HD-library-preference folder as well as the user-library-preference folder, uninstall Notebook and SMARTBoard Drivers. Restart.

Then install an older version of Notebook like the Senteo 2 version at http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-US/Support/Downloads/SMARTResponse/... and then uninstall Senteo unless you plan to buy Senteo/SMART Response clickers. You can then uninstall and install the latest SMARTBoard Drivers if you want.
I am on the phone with Smart Tech. Support.

They had me uninstall notebook, and then uninstall all smart products. Still crashing. . .
Just found out from Smart Tech Support that the new service pack for Smart Notebook 10 has severe compatibility issues with PowerPC processors. (See suggested course of action below):

They said that they are working on a "fix" so that future updates of Smart Notebook 10 will be compatible with PPC machines. (If you can believe this, my case was one of the first ones they learned about the issue.)

Tried this, now my product update works but Notebook doesn't even open!! Grrr...

Thank you! I only found out that it was a known issue with the help of Google and your post. One would think that Smart would put something in their knowledgebase about this!
