icon problems

I'm running 10.8.  When I select a tool (such as the pen) and move the cursor over an object, the pen icon switches to a "move object" icon.  As soon as I move off the object, the cursor returns to the pen icon.  This happen for whatever tool I choose to use.  This is incredibly annoying, especially if I'm trying to write over an object.  The move icon looks somewhat like a compass rose and makes it difficult to judge where the pen tip is.  Anyone else have this issue?

I have a similar issue... I'm not sure if it's the same but for me, that compass rose... or four crosses thing shows up on the screen and I can't get rid of it no matter what I do!  It truly is driving me insane!  Just ask my students =)

When you have the black arrow icon selected from the SMART Notebook Toolbar, you should have a white arrow on blank areas of a SMART Notebook page.  It should turn into the compass/crosshair icon when hovering over an object.  

I noticed both Nathalie and Kathy list Windows Vista as computers they are using so perhaps this issue only occurrs when Notebook 10.8 is installed in that operating system.  Try resetting the SMART Notebook Toolbar to see if that resolves the issue.

1.  Close SMART Notebook.

2.  On your Microsoft Windows computer, go to this location:  C:\Documents and Settings\<username>>>\My Documents\SMART Notebook

3.  Delete the .sml and .xml files.

4. Reopen SMART Notebook and check whether the tools now behave properly.

  I followed your instructions and the issue has disappeared on my home computer which is running Vista.  My school computer, however, is running XP.  I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if this will work.  Thanks for your help!
