SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hello! My wife is a music specialist and teaches pre-K-6 graders. ( I teach gen ed 4th grade at another school) - She wants to somehow add or locate musical font to use in text boxes as she writes her notebook lessons.

Any ideas on having success with this endeavor? Perhaps music fonts, unlike the MATH font options, just is not available/do-able.

Thanks! Adam

Great question-- sure hope someone has the answer!! anne marie
I figured it out - basically, I got a link from my wife's bookmarked resources and found a guy who offered music font freeware/shareware. I followed the directions, and added the fonts I downloaded as True Type fonts, and they work great! The only bummer is that since these fonts are NOT included (as a rule) within your usual palette of choices, one must "acquire" the files and install on your own. Out of courtesy, I will locate the links and get them posted on this discussion thread ASAP.....

So now, the SMART Notebook files we downloaded that were built with music symbols appear as symbols, NOT alphabet letters! Yay!

Just found it!!

Here's one easy link that includes 5 different music fonts in True Type format. Enjoy!!!

Thanks for sharing this tip. I thought maybe I should add some details for others to follow:

1. Download the music fonts from http://www.fontspace.com/robert-allgeyer

2. Windows XP Directions: Click on Start-Control Panel (or Open My Computer then Control Panel)

3. Double-click the Fonts folder.

4. Drag the .tff files to the fonts folder and it will install those fonts for you. (E.G. Drag the MusicSync.tff file to the fonts folder).

5. Now open up Notebook and when you type using the MusicSync font, you will see music notes!
And thank YOU, Obe, for the easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions - teachers are MUCH more willing to incorporate their techno-tools if they are supported in such endeavors within virtual workshops, such as Ning communities.

The problem I have always seen/heard about/felt myself is that just when you need a "tech assist" on something new at your school or district, it ends up that your local support is handling other issues - so folks tend to follow the path of least resistance - and give up, and move on to a fallback plan.

I absolutely dig Ning for providing real-world networks of folks who share their experiences and knowledge.

Now, if I could just get my battery replaced in my Dell Latitude....and get it re-imaged....and update the internal memory...and get a faster processor.......LOL

When I do this it worked just as you describe until I click out of the text box. Then the font reverts to the default font. If I select the text box, it becomes the music font again.

I tried it in Word and it does the same thing.

What did I miss?

Thanks.

Marty
I saw what you are describing about the music notes changing back to letters until I restarted my computer. Now it has been working fine.

You may also want to try a different font and see if it works since there were several to choose from to download on that web page.
I'm having trouble dragging the file into the fonts folder.  It won't allow me to copy and paste, or drag it into the folder.  I am running Windows 7, do you this has something to do with it?  Are there any fixes for it that you know of?

Hi Stacey,

it's possible that you'd need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer for you to be able to do it. otherwise, it should be as easy as just drag-and-drop.
