SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Anyone have any experience running the latest verison of Smart Notebook Version 10.8.228.0 on Mac OS 10.6.8?

I'm a Technology Teacher in a K-8 school and I'm trying to install Notebook on the teacher station in the lab, and eventually on teacher MacBooks also running 10.6.8.  Every time I install this latest version, upon first run of Notebook, it just crashes and doesn't let me open Notebook.

I even tried installing 10.7, which I have running on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8, just fine.  When I installed it, Notebook never installed.  The Smart Technologies folder didn't show the Notebook application.

Please help! Any  help and expertise would be very much appreciated.

Please feel free to email me directly at jennyrmurphy@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Jenny

Hello Jenny,

It sounds like there are some left over files that could be causing Notebook to crash on start-up.

Run this Clean-up utility (which will get rid of any file that could be causing the problem, as well as uninstall any older version of our software)

Once done, you can go ahead and re-install 10.8 again.

Let me know how that goes.

I ran the Clean-up utility - Default User Settings and Clean Up.

I re-installed Notebook 10.8

Still crashes upon opening.

UGH!

Ok, it's possible that you're running into the memory leak issue (this happens rarely with specific Macs, with a fix coming on the way)

You can run the clean up tool again, then just install 10.7 from the following Link

NB and Drivers 10.7

Hi Jenny,

I have 10.8 running pretty good on OS X 10.6.8.

I'm afraid I am not sure what your issues are, but we were told by our rep to make sure we did a clean install and to remove all previous versions like Habib said.

I hope you get it sorted.
Thank you! There were no previous versions.  I re-imaged the machine on Monday and tried to install Notebook 10.8, and.... nothing.  So frustrating.

Try 10.7 as i suggested above and if you're running into the problem, then we'll have to open a ticket for you and arrange for support session.

Is this the same problem that would cause slow or jerky motion in notebook files that use Flash?

We have a teacher that has a "game" that is played by clicking and dragging the letters to rearrange them into the correct order.  The player cannot get the objects to move, or when they do, they move very slowly and the image appears to lag.  It seems that all windows and actions appear to move slowly when Notebook is open.

Hello Dennis,

Would you be able to get a copy of that file and attach it here so I can take a look at it and test it?

Thanks,

HS

Here is the file...

By the way, I did run the activity monitor an it ran the cpu up to 100%, but the memory allocation did not change.

Attachments:
This is on a MacBook 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM.

Does the teacher have Flash Player 11 by any chance??

I just tested it and the mac which had Flash 10.2 it worked fine, but the one with Flash 11 it was random and non-responsive.

Yes. So, unfortunately, he will not be able to use the file.  Thank you for your help!
