A Revolution in Education
Hi folks,
I am running Windows 7.
Ever since I have updated to Notebook 10.8, I have not been able to set Notebook as the default program. If I go into "Set your default programs", Notebook is not on the list. If I go into "Associate a file type or protocol with a program", select .notebook and click on 'Change Program', and hit "browse", selecting the Notebook application from the right directory does nothing. It does not associate Notebook with this extension. As you can imagine, this is extremely frustrating as I have to open Notebook and choose a file that I want to open instead of simply clicking on any Notebook file to start the program.
HELP!!!
Thanks,
Dave

Notebook.exe should be at one of the following locations depending on the type of Windows 7.
1. Use Start > Search or Windows Explorer to browse to either location below to find Notebook.exe and confirm that it opens when double-clicked.
In Windows 7 (32 bit) browse to: c:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\Education Software
In Windows 7 (64 bit) browse to: c:\Program Files (x86)\SMART Technologies\Education Software
2. Please open the Microsoft KB link for an alternative way to establish the Default location for launching SMART Notebook. In step 2, look for the Notebook.exe file.

Permalink Reply by David Gallant on December 11, 2011 at 12:24pm Thanks Ian! That did work... to a certain extent. Now clicking on a .notebook file, Notebook does open. However, the icon for the notebook files is a generic MS icon (again, I'm running Windows 7). I can't seem to replace this icon with the standard Notebook icon. Thoughts?

The default icon is located in c:\windows\installer\...
On my Windows 7 image, the location is: C:\Windows\Installer\{ED0FF410-41B9-441F-B457-4AC81782E8BF}\_96E6FBDF_9374_44BA_B898_6BA68129E6CE,0
You can try using a free third-party utility called "Default Programs Editor" to update the icon: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/default-programs-editor-change-fi...

Permalink Reply by David Gallant on December 13, 2011 at 6:16am Thanks. I couldn't find the actual icon on my computer, so I found one online that seems to do the trick. A complete re-load may have done the trick, but this works!
