Create own .galleryitem file in which border and fill can change

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck in creating a simple gallery item of their own that acts like a Notebook created polygon or, the Map of Africa for example, found in gallery items. An object that both the border and interior can be changed by the students in color and style?

Explanation: I do a project with my 2nd graders where (in appleworks) they have a maps I created of the 5 Boroughs of New York City and bordering land masses. (Westchester county, Long island etc.) In apple works, the children can change the fill and border color of each borough. I have tried to convert this same lesson in Notebook with no luck. Transparent .png files of each borough are great in that the students can drag all the pieces together to make the map, but they can't change the color of each item. I have been able to unzip the AFRICA_0000C8E5.galleryitem file and realize that it is a svg file with much code to allow it to work as a galleryitem file. Has anyone been able to create their own gallery items that can change border and fill colors?

Thanks for any insights,

Whitney Turner

Hi Whitney,

I'll see what I can whip-up for you.

Hi There,

Attached is a new file for you. Its a .Notebook file. Its not an interactive flash element.

I took a black and white map of Africa and seperated it into polygon segments (Notebook Math Edition) and resaved the file for you. It should still open in standard Notebook but the polygon shapes can't be changed much. You can however change the colour of borders and the fill.

Tip: I took an image of real Africa, made the borders and ground transparent and put it behind it during a test. It looked very cool and might be a nice direction to go. This is just a yellow landmass with red borders.

And the revised edition. This one turned out cool.

If you like either of these you can drag and drop the files from your Desktop into your My Content section in your gallery folder from within Notebook.
