SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Hello all!  We have run into a problem with many of the SMART boards at my school where they need to be reoriented each time they are plugged in.  I have been using my board for about a year, and have had to reorient it once a week at the most in the past.  Recently it just started needing to be redone each time it is used.  I have already tried updating the firmware,  but no luck.  I had someone tell me it might be the controller going out.  However, this is happening on many of the boards that are new and have only been used a few times.  Any ideas?

Do you change the resolution of your computer?  1024 X 768 seems to work best for our Epson projectors  Changing the resolution of the computer usually means orienting again.

Do you use a document camera?  It seems when we switch between camera mode and the pc mode on Avervision document cameras, it can put the orientation out.  It is best to stay in PC mode and use the document camera software when you want to project the document camera.

Do you have local accounts or server accounts when using the SMART Board?  What operating system?  What version of Notebook?  Different computers or the same computers hook up to the same SMART Boards?

The resolution for the projectors is at 1024x768.  We are not using document cameras at all, but I wish. :)  The version of notebook is 10.8, and we use Mac operating systems version 10.6.  It is usually the same computer hooked up to the boards each day.  Thanks!

If you can try downgrading to Notebook 10.7 to see if that works any better.

Directions:

1. Load up Notebook.  Click on the gallery tab.  CLick on My Content.  Click the arrow to the right of My Content and choose export as collection file.  This will back up any files you have saved in My Content.

2. Run this SMART uninstaller to get rid of all SMART products on your computer.

3. Download and install Notebook 10.7 from http://www.smarttech.com/us/Support/Browse+Support/Download+Softwar...

4. Restart the computer

5. Run the SMARTFirwareUpdater and update if needed

I think it is a Mac thing as I have the same issues with OS X 10.6, Notebook 10.8 and my SD680 board, as do other teachers in my building.

I have been doing a few things with SMART customer service, but we are at a bit of an impasse right now.

I brought my wife's Windows 7 laptop in last weekend, and my board worked flawlessly every time I plugged it in or out. I plug in the Mac, and same issues remain for me and the other teachers who are using Notebook 10.7.

Last I heard SMART were looking into it. I have firmware up to date, drivers up to date and Mac OS X 10.6 up to date, so who knows what it is. If I find a cure I will let you know.

Have you tried restarting with the board hooked up? We have found that is resetting some things for our teachers. We have also unplugged the boards and plugged back in.

I found this issue was a registry problem.  The orientation was kept in the registry and users needed full control to the smart board drivers under local machine software

The problem has been solved. It was a driver issue that needs to be downloaded from SMART. Thanks everyone!
