A Revolution in Education
I like the SMART INK features but can't stand having the small SMART INK tab always hovering at the top of the page. It seems like it would be nice to turn it on when you want it to instead of always having to turn it off.
I can turn it off temporarily. I can't seem to find a way to turn it off permanently.

I understand you are looking to remove the SMART Ink Toolbar from your applications. I can certainly assist you with this.
To hide SMART Ink overlays on specific applications:
1. Go to the install directory (C:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\Education Software, find the file named 'NullOverlayConfig.xml'
2. Right click and select 'Edit' on the file, NullOverlayConfig.xml
3. Add the following code to the bottom of the list right before the </SMARTInkOverlays> tag
<ProcessInfo>
<ProcessName>ProcessName</ProcessName>
<ClassName></ClassName>
<WindowTitle></WindowTitle>
</ProcessInfo>
4. Add the application’s process name* between the <ProcessName></ProcessName>tags*Process name for any application can be retrieved from task manager’s processes tab. (for example, explorer.exe to remove SMART Ink from Internet Explorer)
Note: Process name should exclude the file extension (.exe).

I hope this helps. Good luck. It drives me nuts, I was hoping for a simple answer.

If you want to completely remove SMART Ink and never have it in any program, you have to keep it from starting at bootup. These steps should work in Windows 7 and Vista.
Make sure you really want to do this though. It took me awhile, but I kind of like SMART Ink now. I do thing SMART should make it easier to turn on and off, and hide the SMART Ink tab. Anyway, here are the steps.
1. click on Start Orb, type msconfig and run the msconfig.exe program
2. go to the Startup tab
3. find SMART Ink and clear the checkbox
4. click Apply and OK
At the next boot-up, SMART Ink will be completely disabled.
If you every want it back you can simply run msconfig again and recheck the box.

Question: I thought if you disabled SMART Ink you disabled ALL ink capability? That's what happened when I *UNINSTALLED* the app, which has to be the functional equivalent of preventing it from running. No?
