SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

I have been helping a friend at a different school than where I teach get aquainted with her board and the software.  When helping her, I noticed that, on certain parts of the board only, the calibration is waaaaay off when writing, touching, anything.  Is this an installation issue?  We have oriented the board numerous times and the same thing is still happening.  She mentioned that the teacher in the classroom before her said it did the same thing and she just dealt with it!  Wow...more patience than me.  I couldn't stand it for the 2 hours I was there helping her!

TIA,

-Aly :)

Typically what you are describing means that the SMART Board is shortening out by touching metal either through the screws or the back of the board is touching metal.

Here are some tips to try:
1. Move all magnets and electrical devices that are near the SMARTBoard.
2. Unplug the SMART Board usb cord for 30 seconds and restart your computer.
3. Hold in the blue reset button on the right side for 10 seconds and restart your computer.
4. Uninstall SMARTBoard Drivers Only and reinstall latest from http://www.smarttech.com/us/Support/Browse+Support/Download+Software
4. We mount on SMART Boards over top of old chalkboards. Some chalkboards are magnetic and sometimes the metal in the chalkboards effects the SMART Boards. We put a piece of cardboard behind the bottom right corner or the area where the problem is occurring. The cardboard provides a barrier between the SMART Board and the metal.
5. Another good tip is to put nylon washers before and after all the screws that touch the SMART Board. You can get these from your SMART reseller or buy them at a local hardware store.
I should also add that changing the computer's resolution to 1024 by 768 (sometimes 800 X 600) helps a lot too as well as adding 12 or 20 points.
I will give it a try. Thanks Obe!
