Airliner: Useful Addition to SMART Experience or Waste of Money?

Just to get the discussion going, what do you think of the Airliner? How do you use it that makes it a valuable addition to the SMART Board?

14 teachers in my building got them last year. I think 2 of us use them. The rest are packing them up and sending them off to teachers that got boards this year. How are other people effectively using them that makes them worth the money?

I agree with Lloyd as I too found the airliner very useful in the classroom. It gave me proximal control and left the smartboard open for the students to use. I also let the students use the airliner to help me with lesson presentations. Regards
I will add my 1 penny in also. I began using my airliner this year when I got my smartboard. It's great for my room because my smartboard is not the center of my room. It's use a an introduction point, then my students get to work on their computers. If I did not have the airliner, my smartboard would become mute during class...
With the airliner, I can stop my students working on their computers, use the airliner and have it display while I'm near their workstations.
I've had mine for 2 weeks and am getting the hang of it. I took a live online course yesterday about it but it didn't tell me anything new. I do not think Smart's website is user friendly - it took me quite a bit of searching to find information on the slate (airliner). I find that sometimes that there is a 2-3 second lag between what I write on the slate and its appearance on the board. What I really like is that it frees me to walk around the room and keep the talking or off task behavior to a minimum. I teach middle school and I didn't like being pinned up at the front of the room all the time. One other teacher got a slate at the same time and I have been teaching her little things about it so she'll keep on using it. I can see teachers who aren't into technology giving up on it since it does take a little getting used to.
There is a delay that comes when we write on the airliner and the time it takes to come up on the board. Do you know what I can do to fix this?
