SMART Board Revolution

A Revolution in Education

Have upgraded software to Notebook 10. My IWB doesn't automatically detect pens anymore and can't bring up the keyboard. Have no control panel in the tools section of the welcome window.
Light on the side of IWB is blinking - can't work out what I need to do to fix it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA
Lesley

Lesley,
I would start out by checking all of your wire connections. It kind of sounds like your iwb is not being detected by the computer. There is a place on your computer to make it redetect it but you have to be able to get into the control panel. Is the control panel in the welcome window grayed out or not there at all? The welcome screen has 4 tabs, the one you want to look at is "quick start" not the "tools" tab. From there, pick the control panel. Hope that this helps you. Let me know if the solution helped.

1. Press the SMART Board icon in the notification area, and then select Control Panel.
The control panel appears.
2. Press SMART Hardware Settings.
The upper area of the control panel displays an image of the SMART product connected to the computer.
3. If nothing is connected you can click on a button to start the connection.

Good luck!

Is the light blinking on the board green or red? You might need to check the phone like connection that is on the board and make sure that the connection is in the correct port...Next I might try to stop and then restart the SMART Board Service, This will show you what is connected. If it is not started, this is where to start it, if it is already started, stop it and restart it and see if this solves the problem

1. Press the SMART Board icon in the notification area, and then select Welcome Center.
2. Press the Help/Support tab.
3. Press SB Diagnostics.
The SMART Board Diagnostics dialog box appears.
4. Select Service > Stop.
5. To restart the Notebook Software service, select Service > Start.
Hope this works. Let us know.

light is blinking green
my smartboard was working perfectly with the old software.
can't get into the sb diagnostics either

perhaps there is something I have missed when I upgraded the software? Have tried repairing it. perhaps I need to uninstall/reinstall??

thanks for your suggestions

I would uninstall and reinstall. Unplug the board from the computer while doing so. It is a great solution especially if it works :)

Heidi - thanks for your input.
It appears that when I downloaded the software it was damaged or something like that.

I re-downloaded the software, re-installed and I now have control panel, floating tools etc. Now maybe I can get some good stuff out of it.

Thanks Again

Happy to hear that your reinstall solved your problem. I had issues installing notebook 10 myself so I can relate to your frustration.

Hi there,

Initially with the release of Notebook 10 there was 2 downloads. One for the software and one for the drivers. I would guess from your situation that you downloaded the software but not the drivers. Later on they wrapped both the software and the drivers into one download so redownloading would have fixed the issue.

Hi
I've been running version 9.7.103.1 for a while now, quite happily. I downloaded the combined version of Version 10 and installed it. It all came up, including the Control Panel - but the SB Connection Wizard told me no Smartboard was connected. But it was connected. So I uninstalled Version 10 and went back to Version 9 without undoing the connection to the Smartboard. Guess what! Now the Smartboard worked fine, just like it always did. I contacted Smartboard who suggested the issue with the 2 separate downloads. So I downloaded the separate software and drivers and installed them. Guess what? It wouldn't find the Smartboard. I uninstalled and went back to Version 9. It worked fine. There's clearly no connection issue and no malfunction with the Smartboard: the problem is clearly with the Version 10 software.

I made sure I told the Windows Firewall not to block SB Version 10, and I even disabled the Firewall to rule it out. It made no difference. As far as Version 10 is concerned I don't have a Smartboard. Any ideas, folks? I have already wasted several hours on this.

The only thing that I can think of that might help you would be to go through the SMARTBoard connection center wizard. You do this by going to the control panel in the SB software. Next click on the Smartboard connection wizard. You will tell the computer to recognize the board. If you need more assistance in this part, post again :)
We had a problem with one of our boards and computers that did not recognize that it was connected even though the wires were. We had a red light on the SMARTBoard. This is what gave me the idea that it was not reading from computer to board.

I hope this solves your problem

Problem solved at last. Although the Version 10 software claims to be uninstalling the old version first, it doesn't do it properly. So, this time I uninstalled Version 9 manually, rebooted and then installed Version 10. This time it did work and found the Smartboard immediately. Although the Smartboard technical help people did respond initially to my query, they didn't suggest a manual uninstall of Version 9 first and only raised possibilities I had already ruled out. I wrote back to them to say that, but they haven't responded at all so I have to say I am not that impressed with their support. They need to stress that a manual uninstall and reboot first are essential.

I do have some ideas for troubleshooting but don't have time to type them today. Here is what I would try:

1. Uninstall and disable your antivirus and firewall while installing the latest Smartboard software.
2. I would contact Smarttech either by Phone, email, or on the Smart Exchange at http://exchange.smarttech.com/ They usually respond to posts within 48 hours.
